This is the only face product in SeneGence’s skincare line with SPF built in, which makes it the one I’d point to first for mornings. It’s a daytime moisturizer with broad-spectrum SPF 15 from zinc oxide 6% and octisalate 5%, plus probiotic ferments. SeneGence aims it at sensitive to oily or troubled skin, and lists sun, environmental defense, lines and barrier as the concerns.
One pump that covers moisturizer and SPF is exactly the kind of shortcut my mornings need.
The appeal is fewer steps: moisturizer and sun protection in one pump before makeup. It belongs to the Microbiome line, so it’s built to sit on top of the Microbiome Correcting Cleanser and serum. The trade-off is that SPF 15 is the whole sun story here. If you spend long days outside, read the label directions on reapplying and plan for that. Very dry skin may want a richer cream underneath.
At $80 for 1.7 fl oz, it costs $10 more than the core DayTime Moisturizers, and you’re paying for the SPF. It’s Subscribe & Save eligible too. If your skin is dry rather than oily or sensitive, the DayTime Moisturizer – Dry is the better match.
Best for
Sensitive, oily or breakout-prone skin that wants moisturizer and SPF in one morning step.
Skip it if
Your skin is dry and you want a richer day cream. Try DayTime Moisturizer – Dry instead.

Where it fits in your morning routine

Moisturizer is the last skincare step in the morning, and because this one carries the SPF, nothing skincare goes on top. Cleanse, exfoliate on the days you do, add an optional serum like Digital Age Defense, then finish here. Makeup comes after.
What’s in it, in plain words
- Zinc oxide 6%: the mineral sunscreen filter doing most of the SPF work.
- Octisalate 5%: a second sunscreen filter that rounds out the broad-spectrum SPF 15.
- Probiotic ferments: SeneGence describes probiotics as helping balance the skin microbiome and maintain hydration.
Sets that include Microbiome Defense SPF 15
- Microbiome SkinCare Regimen Set: cleanser, this SPF, evening moisturizer and EyeCrème, $290
My tips
Tip 1
Give it a minute to settle before foundation so your base doesn't slide around.
Tip 2
Use a full pump, not a dab. Skimping on a moisturizer with SPF means less of the SPF, too.
Tip 3
Carry it on beach or pool days and follow the label directions for reapplying.

Microbiome Defense SPF 15 FAQs
Does Microbiome Defense Daytime Moisturizer have SPF?
Yes. It’s broad-spectrum SPF 15, with zinc oxide 6% and octisalate 5% as the active sunscreen ingredients. It’s the only SPF face product in SeneGence’s skincare line.
Is it good for oily skin?
SeneGence lists it for sensitive to oily or troubled skin, so oily and combination skin are the target. Dry skin may find it too light on its own.
Can I wear makeup over it?
Yes. It’s the last skincare step in the morning, so foundation or tinted moisturizer goes on top once it has settled.
Should I use it at night?
No need. It’s the morning half of the Microbiome line, and SPF does nothing for you in the dark. At night, switch to the Microbiome Restorative Evening Moisturizer.
Is it part of a set?
Yes. The Microbiome SkinCare Regimen Set ($290) includes it with the Correcting Cleanser, Restorative Evening Moisturizer and EyeCrème. That’s the same total as buying the four separately.
